ACCEPTABLE
FILE FORMATS
There are many file formats used for various programs and uses within
the graphics community. If you are unfamiliar with some of the file
formats that your programs can produce and what the strengths and
weaknesses are for these formats, you can go to the following web
site for assistance: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graphics_file_format.
Pioneer Publishing works in Macintosh format. Programs we have available
are Photoshop, In-Design, Quark X-Press, Freehand, Illustrator, and
Acrobat. Using word processing programs like Word or Publisher are
strongly discouraged for design projects with pictures and graphics.
Basic services are available with these programs. Call for availability
and restrictions. Pioneer Publishing considers all hard copy or electronic
files labeled or referred to as ‘Camera Ready’ to be those
that will need NO additional design work or corrections.
Make sure your page dimensions are correct with all final trim and
bleed allowed for. All work, which contains color to the edge of the
paper must allow at least an 1/8” bleed.
When sending electronic files, make sure that all supporting files
and fonts are sent with your work. All fonts are not on all computers
and often times a graphic will need to changed to another format to
work with other software. Please be specific when sending a file.
Please make sure that the file name is specific to the job. (Example:
Incorrect = book.jpg. Correct = 2008 Fillmore Co. Fair book.jpg)
Be aware that colors vary between monitors and printers. Colors look
differently on screen (RGB) and have many more colors than CMYK print
may be able to produce. Keep this in mind when you are designing.
Standard Formatting requirements include:
1) All art files must be CMYK
2) All art file elements (Graphic Images, Photos, etc.) must be provided
in a minimum resolution of 300 DPI.
3) All Images and fonts must be embedded or outlines. If that option
is not available the original files must be sent along with the project.
4) Create all files with the proper bleeds and allow margins so that
trimming will not cut off any page elements. Make document to proper
size and always check the USPS site for proper mailing sizes.
Remember: All
materials provided to Pioneer Publishing for inclusion in any job,

provided to Pioneer Publishing, where prior copyrights are not disclosed,
leave the customer requesting the work to assume all legal consequences.
